Reasons for Trials, The Sam Family-South Africa

It has been my privilege to travel to Africa numerous times. It has also been my privilege to tell stories of individuals and families who’s lives are filled with faith, in spite of trials. The spiritual journey of the Sam family from South Africa is such a story.

How Beautiful Upon the Mount–Sierra Leone

Following decades of war, violent strife, economic turmoil and the ebola crisis, Sierra Leoneans carry on. On December 2, 2012, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland organized the 3,000th stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in this West African nation. There are many ways to die in Africa; nevertheless, the light of love and peace shines on the Lion of the Mountains.

The Navajo Hopi Gardening Project

What an amazing experience–spending time on the Navajo/Hopi reservation in Arizona. The air is dry. The land is barren. Yet, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is working with the Native American population to cause the desert to blossom as the rose. The Navajo Hopi Gardening project is teaching Native Americans the skills to be self-sufficient by growing their own food. This project is helping these people return to their roots of living off the land. In the process, many lives are changing, as the barren land yields marvelous fruits. Check out this short documentary film I was privileged to work on.
